Autistic Haus is an innovative, volunteer-run charity creating accessible, supported housing designed specifically for autistic individuals and the way we navigate spaces.

Founded by people with lived experience, we’re building infrastructure to reduce processing burdens, promote autonomy, and bolster sustainability of existing systems like the NDIS.

Building Homes With Foundational Supports

The  majority of autistic people are not deemed eligible for NDIS, and are told  that "foundational supports" should cover their significant support and  community access needs.

These  foundational supports still don't exist, there's no model for them  (there is a concept of plans for foundational supports for children, far  from being realised or comprehensive) outside of the one I've developed  in Autistic Haus.

For this role I completed studies in Business in Design at ISCD, and I am endorsed by international leaders in the field of autism such as Professor Tony Attwood who has decades of  experience. Together with our board and community we have a meticulous ready-to-build housing model  with inclusive supports and specifically designed for autistic  accessibility to reduce processing burdens.

Autistic  people process environments differently, and generate significantly  more information in response to stimuli, compared to typically developing populations.

Navigating  surroundings which don't account for our unique relationships with the  spaces we occupy places a huge and debilitating weight on the  distinctive autistic nervous system.

By creating central communal facilities, we boost the resources available to everyone while making the most of nature-set small homes, and unlocking a locus for delivering support with maximum efficiency. Adaptively including low and high support needs as well as  accommodating co-occurring conditions from the ground up means we save the  government money, carers from ongoing stress, worry and exhausting  heartache, and most importantly optimise the capacity and daily lives of our  autistic residents. Our unique model excludes no autistic person and saves NDIS costs for residents who do have individual plans.

We  are a start up initiative, a DGR registered charity with a 100%  volunteer board of members and directors who all have lived experience with disability,  neurodiversity, or caring for people who do.

Absentia Nova

Absence is Autistic with substantial support needs and developed the concept of Autistic Inclusive Design, a field so overlooked they coined the term themselves.

They’ve dedicated years of formal

and informal study, guided by professionals and the Autistic community-into inclusive design and the history of systemic ableism. Grateful for life-changing NDIS supports, Absence created Autistic Haus to showcase its potential.

Ed Carroll

Ed is driven by a passion for social justice and fair access to infrastructure, dedicating his time to making politics accessible in today’s world.

As the Interim Queensland President of the Australian Progressives Party, he’s inspired by his sons to help create a better future.

Thank you, Ed and welcome to Autistic Haus!

Aidan Memery

Aidan is a respected leader within local neurodiverse communities, admired for the way he leads by example as a professional neurodivergent person.

He has a genuine ability to see the best in everyone, and it’s an honour to watch him engage with all expressions of neurodiversity.
